Yozo Hamaguchi is one of the leading copper-plate artists of the 20th century. He revived mezzotint, which was once a printing technology, and further established a unique artistic expression by incorporating colors. The tranquil works with clear colors and faint light still fascinate people all over the world today.
In this exhibition, we introduce Yuji Hamada, a spirited photographer who appeals the digital society of the 21st century the possibilities of photography, and presents experimental works while incorporating accidentalness, together with the copper-plate prints of Yozo Hamaguchi. Hamada’s photographs, which expand new expressions with soft ideas, have something similar to Hamaguchi’s works. In addition to the color trilogy “C/M/Y”, “RGB”, and “K” series, unpublished works produced in 2020 that examine colors in photographs are also released.
The exhibition consists of approximately 25 copper-plate prints by Yozo Hamaguchi and approximately 60 photographs by Yuji Hamada.
